Thanks for supporting Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF)
Connecting Communities, Cultures and Continents!
The Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers and, crucially, provides audiences with exquisite lenses to the real Africa. The mission of the festival is to promote an understanding and appreciation of Africa and Africans through moving images. Now in its 7th year, the weekend festival takes the audience on a journey across the vast African continent in a showcase of over 40 films by Africa’s seasoned and emerging filmmakers, post-screening dialogue with filmmakers, workshops, visual art exhibition, panel discussions, live entertainment, food, etc.

SVAFF is produced by Oriki Theater, a Mountain View, California based performing arts organization, in partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), Mountain View, California.

SVAFF - Silicon Valley African Film Festival

Set in beautiful Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area of California – the high-tech capital of the world, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) provides audiences a unique lens to the real Africa.

The Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) promotes an understanding and appreciation of Africa and Africans through moving images. Aptly themed “Africa through the African lens”, it is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers and, crucially, provides audiences with exquisite lenses to the real Africa. The festival recognizes and celebrates the creation and discovery of cinematic art and innovation, and provides the San Francisco Bay Area community access to the richness, diversity and vitality of Africa’s creative expressions through the lenses of Africa’s seasoned and emerging filmmakers. SVAFF has built a substantial following and has become an annual destination film event that draws out of state and international guests.

Held on September 29 - October 1, 2017, the festival's opening ceremony begins on Friday with a VIP / Red Carpet reception, followed by a parade of flags of the about 25 African countries in the festival, live entertainment, a fashion show and the screening of the opening night feature film. The festival continues throughout the weekend with more film screenings, performances, an African marketplace, dialogue with filmmakers in attendance, panel discussions, community forums, more performances, food, etc. A centerpiece feature of the festival is the Diaspora Spotlight, a program that honors and celebrates Africa's ancestral footprint in a country or region of the African diaspora through film screenings, exhibitions, performances, panel discussions, etc. The Diaspora Spotlight program will feature USA!

Whether you are a film or culture buff, this is the ONE Event you cannot afford to miss!
