A two part music film by UK based Ghanaian singer/songwriter SUTRA, “Waves/The Water” explores notions of God, womanhood, identity, spirituality, suffering and healing. Drawing from Akan tradition, philosophy and symbolism and using water as an overarching motif with fluctuating interpretations, each part of the film represents different ends on a spectrum of pain. It seeks to interrogate the ways in which we process our pain, how we share or bury it, how it breaks us down and how we triumph in spite of it.
