SVAFF 2014 Special Recognition Award

Dr. Sam Dede (Nigeria)

Seasoned actor and filmmaker Dr. Sam Dede was born in Lagos, Nigeria but grew up briefly in Sapele before relocating to Port Harcourt where he has lived all his life. He is currently the Director-General of Rivers State Tourism Development Agency, an agency with a vision to transform the natural resources, cultural heritage and traditional hospitality of the rivers people into an eminent and globally recognized tourist attraction.

For several decades Sam Dede graced Nigerian movie screens with his realistic portrayals of characters that earned him several awards and the adoration of fans all over the country. An academic, Dr. Dede is a former lecturer at the University of Lagos and is currently on the Faculty of Arts at the University of Port Harcourt where he continues to teach and mentor up and coming artists. In recognition of Dr. Dede's distinctive role in the development of Nollywood, Africa's most vibrant film industry, coupled with his commitment to arts and culture, especially his visionary leadership through the Rivers Film Development Initiative, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, hereby, honors him with the 2014 Special Recognition Award.
